All grades, sixth through ninth, competed well for Scott’s All*Stars teams in last weekend’s Tigers Memorial Tournament in Savannah.
However, it was the SAS eighth-grade team that dominated the tournament by going 4-0, with all its wins coming by double digits. The team’s efforts gave it a 25-5 record going into this week.
The team hit a milestone during the tourney, registering its 100th win with a victory over the Low Country Storm.
“This age group has been together since fourth grade, and it’s rare to see a group of kids that have won 100 games together,” SAS founder Marcus Scott IV said. “It’s great to see the talent our program has developed in this community in five years. When we started this program four years ago, our mission was to work with these kids until they graduated from high school, and 100 wins later, they are not only striving toward graduation together, but they are one of the best teams in Georgia.”
The SAS eighth-grade squad plays this weekend in Atlanta, followed by the eight- and ninth-grade teams playing next weekend in Jacksonville.  The teams then will take a break to play for high-school basketball practice in June before coming back to compete for a national championship in July.
“I hope they continue to work hard in and out of the classroom so others can see that hard work truly does pay off,” Scott said.
