Blue Tide athletes honored

Long County High School recently held its annual fall sports banquet to recognize athletes who excel at cross country, softball, cheerleading and football. Today’s story will cover the cross-country and softball teams and the cheerleading squad. Wednesday’s story will focus on the football team.
For the Blue Tide cross country team, Jarquez Payne took home the Most Valuable Runner trophy, and Tiffany Wiegand-Anderson received the Academic Achievement plaque. On the cheerleading squad, the Most Spirited Award went to Jasmine Calhoun, the Academic Achievement Award went to Kirshana Calhoun, and the Most Dedicated Award went to Sydney Bryant. The Blue Tide Award went to Shelby Kuzlik, while the Outstanding Dedication and Hard Work Award went to Ashley Kuzlik. The Most Improved Award went to Sheighla Bryant.
For the Lady Tide softball team, Amber Wilson was recognized as the Most Improved Player of the Year, Miranda Taylor took home the Blue Tide Leadership Award, Alyssa Anderson took home Junior Varsity Best Defensive Performance Award, Kaylyn McEwin received the Junior Varsity Best Offensive Performance Award, Madalyne Flynn took the Best Defensive Performance Award and the Coaches Award went to Taylor Holton.
Taylor Harrison and Taylor Poole each received multiple awards with Harrison being recognized on the 2-AA All-Region team as an outfielder and also earning the Best Offensive Performance Award on her team. Poole received the Most Outstanding Performance Award and the Underclassman Academic Achievement Award. Erica Golden also was recognized for her effort in the classroom. She received the Upper Classman Academic Achievement Award.
