Brown records 2nd double-double of season

Rion Brown picked a good time to have his second double-double of the season.
Coming in to last week’s game at North Carolina, the University of Miami men’s basketball team was 0-2 in Athletic Coast Conference play. But behind the former Liberty County High School standout, the Hurricanes earned their first ACC win. Brown scored 19 points and 10 rebounds in the Hurricanes’ 63-57 win at North Carolina on Jan. 8, according to the school’s athletic website.
He also sank two 3-pointers in the game while playing 31 minutes. So far, Brown has started in all three ACC games, averaging 34.7 minutes per game, has a total of 18 rebounds and has scored 35 total points.
For the season, according to ESPN.com, Brown leads the Hurricanes in points (13.7 per game) and assists (2.9) and is second in rebounds (6.5).
Miami plays two of its next three ACC games at home. Tonight, the Hurricanes play in-state rival Florida State. On Saturday, the ’Canes visit Georgia Tech and next week they host Duke. Miami is 9-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Brown’s high-school teammate, Jordan McRae, will play this week in two televised games.
McRae and his Tennessee Volunteers host Auburn at 7 tonight on CSS (Hinesville cable channel 26) and are at Kentucky at noon Saturday on CBS (Hinesville channel 12).
Going into tonight’s game, the Vols are 10-5 overall and 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference, according to utsports.com. McRae leads the Vols with 18.3 points per game.
