Coffee sweeps DW tourney

Hinesville was all about basketball on Saturday.
The action took place at three different schools as the 20th annual Donell Woods Tournament showcased ninth grade and junior varsity squads from around the region.
After working their way up through bracket play, the junior varsity boys and girls’ from Coffee County swept the tournament.
In the boys’ championship game the junior varsity Coffee County team took on Glynn Academy.
The two teams stayed  within a bucket for most of both 20 minute halves, but with 10 minutes left to play Coffee opened a nine-point lead and went on to win  43-31.
Coffee County beat JV teams from Bradwell Institute and Johnson to make it to the championship game.
In the girls’ title game, the junior varsity Lady Tigers went against the Lady Trojans. Coffee County held a lead throughout the game and won 36-20.
The Lady Tigers eliminated Johnson High in the semifinals. Coffee County’s JV squad played against the Lady Tigers’ ninth grade squad enroute to the finals.
