Former Liberty County High School basketball players Jordan McRae and Rion Brown continue to have breakout junior seasons at the University of Tennessee and the University of Miami, respectively.
On Tuesday, McRae tallied a career-high 34 points, the most by a Volunteer in six seasons, in UT’s 82-72 win over LSU according to govolsxtra.com.
McRae was 6 of 6 from 3-point range and a career-best 13 of 18 from the floor including a slam dunk midway through the second half.
According to UTsports.com, the Vols tied a school record for 3-point field-goal percentage in a game (66.7 percent), and McRae’s individual effort tied the school record set for most consecutive 3-point shots made, previously set by JuJuan Smith in 2008 vs. Arkansas.
The Volunteers are 15-10 overall and 7-6 in the SEC.
Meanwhile, the University of Miami men’s team tops the Athletic Coast Conference with a 13-0 record and 22-3 overall mark after defeating Virginia, 54-50, Tuesday in Miami. Brown chipped in 10 points and was 3 for 3 on free throws.
He also had four rebounds in the game.
The victory against the Cavaliers was UM’s 14th straight win, the longest in program history, according to sunsentinel.com.
The Hurricanes are ranked No. 2 in the latest USA Today coaches poll.
The Volunteers are unranked so far this season.
