Former Faith Baptist and Liberty County High School sharpshooter Aaron Scott has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Appalachian State University in Boone. N.C.
Scott signed the letter two weeks ago during National Signing Day.
He is finishing his senior year of high school at Richland Northeast High in Columbia, S.C., where his father, Ronald, was relocated.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard gave a solid verbal commitment to ASU in September, according to rivals.com. Scott said the atmosphere was a big reason he chose ASU.
“The campus is very nice up in the mountains,” he said. “The weather up there is nice being that I like the cold, but more importantly, the people up there have a lot of respect for the athletes.”
Scott added the ASU squad is very good, and the students and administration provide a lot of assistance and attention.
He said he plans to remain a shooting guard and wants to make an immediate impact as a freshman next season.
“As long as I do what I have to do on and off the court and stay focused … that’s what I’m there for,” he said.
Scott attended Faith Baptist and — much like former teammate J.J. Frazier, who signed with the University of Georgia — started playing varsity minutes there as a freshman.
Scott then transferred to Liberty County High School, where he continued to put up big numbers.
Scott said his major is undecided, but he is considering business or communications.
