Several players from Liberty County participated in the 2013 Committee for Social Change basketball tournament June 29 at the Glennville Recreation Park.Ralph Ward, Ted Singleton and Joe Roberts were among the big winners in the annual tournament, which raises funds for scholarships.Ward and Singleton managed teams that won trophies.

Roberts beat 11 other players for first place in the 3-point shootout. Roberts hit nine of 15 attempts. Jeryl Bacon of Glennville was the runner-up.  

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit those who apply and receive the scholarship funds.

The committee expressed its gratitude to the players and their sponsors: S Bank of Glennville, Rusty Pig, El Cheapo, Central Pharmacy, Strickland Pharmacy, Bacon Pecan Farms, Center of Life Church of God, Ralph Ward, Pastor Calvin Collier, Coca-Cola of Statesboro, Jeryl Bacon, Brenton Nobles, Minister Otto Lewis Jr., Michael Jinks, Tommy Coleman, Minister Pernell and Patricia Smith, Youth Quake, Piggly Wiggly, Glennville Recreation Staff and Henry Strickland, and the Glennville Police Department.
