Local bowler takes gold at state games

Local bowlers TJ Standard and BJ Cedola recently competed in the 2013 Georgia Games, with Standard winning the championship trophy in his division.
With the championship, Standard qualified for the 2013 State Games of America tournament Aug. 2-4 in Hershey, Pa.
The Hinesville duo competed in the United States Bowling Commission Youth Tournament in May in Augusta. After placing well there, they earned a spot to compete in the Georgia Games last weekend in Brunswick.
Standard, 18, competed in division five, and Cedola, 15, played in division three. During the first round, they each bowled three games. Standard, who had a combined score of 521, and Cedola each placed among the top 10 bowlers. In the second round, Cedola finished first in his division, while Standard placed among the top five.
They reached the third round, where competitors each bowled two games. Standard bowled a 177 and 266 to advance to the final round. Cedola finished fifth in his division.
Standard then won the championship and gold medal by bowling a 191.
Standard and Cedola began bowling at Marne Lanes’ playing on different teams in the Young American Bowling Alliance Fort Stewart league. Standard started about three years ago, while Cedola has about six years of bowling experience. The duo said they have worked with coach Rose Cedola, Sharyl and Jeff Eastlake and Nelson Talamas, but credit each coach who came out every Saturday morning to bowl.
