The Long County High School softball team dropped a pair of Region 2-AA softball contests this week to fall to 5-15 overall and 0-6 in the region.
The Lady Blue Tide fell 11-2 to visiting McIntosh County Academy on Tuesday. The Lady Bucaneers scored four runs on four hits in the first inning and added runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 6-0 in the fifth.
The Lady Tide scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on hits by Kaylynn McEwing, Brittney Smiley and Taylor Poole.
But the wheels fell off the cart in the sixth for Long County.  The team made four errors which led to five runs for MCA
“Too many errors in the top of the sixth,” Long County coach Brian Thomas said. “We got ourselves back in the game in the fifth, and then to make that many errors, you just can’t overcome that…we were flat and lethargic at the beginning of the game, and flat and lethargic at the end of the game. We have got to find a way to start a game well, and then finish a game well.”
McIntosh County had 11 hits and two errors. The Lady Tide had six hits and six errors.
McEwing, Poole, Smiley and Madalynn Flynn had hits for Long County. Poole took the loss. Summer Wright picked up the win for MCA.
Thursday, the Lady Tide fell 10-1 to Brantley County (17-3). Long County plays at home on Tuesday against Appling County at 5:30 p.m.
