The Long County Recreation Department had its first Back-to-School Rally Saturday and kids from all over competed for sports medals and trophies.
The events included a soccer penalty kick, punt-pass-and-kick, football target completion, air-gun marksmanship range, archery field, basketball shootout, homerun derby and a fast pitch competition. There were boys and girls teams with each competition broken down by ages. Each child earned points by participating in each event and additional points for how well they did.
In the 8-under boys division, the winner was Noah Kuhaneck, with the runner-up Chandler Howard, and Austin Pitts rounding out the top three. In the 9-10 division, Seth Rentz was the winner with Garrett Bleyman second and Luke Wells third. In the 11-12 division, Grayson Howard won, Holden Riddle second and Austin Herdman third. In 13-14, the winner was Trae Johnson, second Malik Feden and third Trevor Bleyman.
On the girl’s team, in the 8-under division, McKenzie Green won first, Jami Lynn Jeffers second and Lindsey Smith third. In the 9-10 division, Roxanne Herdman won, Aaliyah Wise second and Mackenzie Pattison three. In 11-12, Amira Kuhaneck won first. I 13-14, the top spot went to Madalyne Flynn.
Each winner received a trophy while the runner-up and the third place finisher received medals.
