Former Liberty County High School basketball standout Jordan McRae scored a game-high 48 points in the opening game of the Pilot Rocky Top League on Wednesday, according to the Maryville Daily Times.
McRae is one of seven current University of Tennessee basketball players drafted to play in the summer league, which is entering its fifth season, according to InsideTennessee.com.
In an article posted on InsideTennesse.com’s Rocky Top Report, writer Randy Moore said McRae launched 38 field-goal tries in his RTL opener, doubling the number of shots he attempted as a Vol freshman last season, when he went 6 for 19 from the field.
On Wednesday he knocked down 16 of 38 shots.
Moore reported McRae scored six consecutive points in the final 1:19 to whittle a 109-103 deficit to 110-109, but missed the front end of a two-shot foul with his team down 111-109 and 4.4 seconds left. He purposely missed the second shot but failed to hit the rim, a violation that gave DeRoyal the ball.
UT’s Kenny Hall, however, led the DeRoyal Industries past Rocky Top, 111-109, at Beaden High School.
