Prep softball now just weeks away

The first day of school is just three weeks away and that means high school sports will be back in full swing starting with softball and immediately followed by Friday night football games.
The Liberty County Board of Education recently released the schedules for Bradwell Institute and Liberty County High School for their softball and football programs.
The football schedules will be featured in the Courier’s annual football sections, but here are the upcoming softball schedules for the Lady Tigers and Lady Panthers softball teams.

BI Lady Tigers

Last season, coach Sharyl Eastlake led the girls to a 11-11 overall season and a 8-4 mark in Region 3-AAAAA. The girls made it to the first round of state before losing to Tift County.
This season, the Lady Tigers will open with a pre-season scrimmage against visiting Liberty County High School at 10 a.m., Aug. 13. On the weekend of Aug. 19-20 the Lady Tigers will head to Glennville to play in the Warrior Blast Tournament. On Aug. 23, the girls travel to Camden County for their first region game against the Lady Wildcats at 4:30 p.m.
The Lady Tigers will play in the Battle in the ’Boro Tournament Aug. 26-27 in Statesboro. Afterwards the girls will be home for a five-game stretch against region opponents. The girls will host Jenkins at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30. They will host Islands High School on Sept. 1 and Groves on Sept. 6. Both games start at 4:30 p.m.

The Wildcats will come to Bradwell on Sept. 15 at 4:30 p.m. and the Windsor Forest Lady Knights will play a double-header at Bradwell on Sept. 17 starting at 11 a.m.
Bradwell will travel to Jenkins on Sept. 22 and Islands High School on Sept. 27 for 4:30 p.m. games. The girls then will travel to Groves on Sept. 29 for a 4:30 game and close the season at Johnson for a double-header on Oct. 1 beginning at 11 a.m.

Liberty County Panthers

Last season, the Lady Panthers were placed in Region 2A-AAAA and finished 5-12 overall and 3-7 in the region. This year, coach Jerome Standard and the girls will start swinging the bats Aug. 11 in Long County in a 5:30 p.m. game. Then, on Saturday, Aug. 13, the Lady Panthers will scrimmage the Lady Tigers at Bradwell Institute at 10 a.m. The girls will host the Lady Blue Devils of Statesboro at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 16 before hitting the road for the Tattnall Tournament, scheduled for Aug. 19-20.
On Aug. 23, the girls will head to Glynn Academy for a 4 p.m. game. The girls will host the Lady Wildcats of Richmond Hill on Aug 25 at 4 p.m.  The Lady Panthers will participate in the Battle in the ’Boro on Aug. 26-27.
At 4 p.m., Aug. 30, the Lady Panthers will play in Brunswick, and they’ll host Ware County Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. On Sept. 6 the girls will play in Wayne County at 4 and will host Glynn at 4 p.m. Sept. 8. The Lady Panthers head to Richmond Hill for a 4 p.m. game Sept. 13 and will host Brunswick at 4 p.m. Sept. 15.
On Sept. 20, the girls will play at Ware County at 4:30 and will host Wayne County at 4 p.m. Sept. 22. They wrap up the regular season at home against Long County at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 28.
