Because of efforts last fall, the future looks good for the Long County High School softball team.
Two freshmen and three sophomores were among the six Blue Tide selected to the All-Region 2-AA team, which was selected by the region’s coaches.
Freshman pitcher Harley Dawson and sophomore pitcher Taylor Poole received first-team honors. Freshman third-baseman Caitlin Wingate, sophomore first-baseman Brittany Smiley, sophomore outfielder Madalyne Flynn, and senior catcher Erica Golden were picked for the second team.
Lady Tide head coach Brian Thomas said he was proud this year’s squad, which went 12-11 overall, and how it competed in the region, where it went 6-6. All but one player from this season’s team will return next season.
“Coach Thomas and his coaching staff did an outstanding job with our team,” LCHS Athletic Director Karen Swindell said. “They put in a lot of work during the offseason to prepare for the year, and the future is bright for the softball team.”
Long County’s selections for the all-region football team will be revealed in Friday’s Courier.
