The Blue Tide baseball team returns to its home turf tonight after a five-game road stretch that spanned two weeks. Long County faces Brantley County in this evening’s Region 2-AA matchup. The Herons come into the game with a 6-4 overall record and a 3-2 region mark. The Tide have a 4-7 overall record and are 1-5 in the region; however, Long County’s record doesn’t include the outcome of Thursday’s game against Bradwell Institute.
Both teams are near the bottom of the 2-AA standings, which means there’s more at stake as the squads try to catch up to region leaders. On paper, the Herons have been a little more productive on offense, averaging 6.9 runs a game compared with the Tide’s 5.6 runs a game. On defense, the Tide is allowing 6.4 runs compared with the Herons giving up seven runs a night. Brantley County has beaten Long County the last six times the teams have met. Tonight’s game in Ludowici is at 6 p.m.
