The Bradwell Institute cross-country team got an early Christmas present when coach Brian Williams announced that eight BI runners were named to the All-Greater Savannah team.
From the Lady Tigers’ squad, Sherina Hornsby made the All-Greater Savannah team, and Jaelin Sample received an honorable mention.
From the Tigers’ squad, Zack Motes made the team again after being receiving an honorable mention as a junior.
In addition, Bradwell’s Wesley Worthy was named runner of the year.
Tigers Dakeem Carlton, David Thornton, Luis Salcedo and Jamorris Hill received honorable mentions.
The coach said Worthy holds the school record time of 16:50, which reportedly was the fastest time out of all runners from schools in Bryan, Liberty, Chatham and Effingham counties.
The Bradwell boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams finished 22nd and 27th at the state Class AAAAA meet, respectively.
Worthy placed 37th at the state meet.
Of the eight Bradwell runners named to the All-Greater Savannah team, four will be returning next year.
“A team consists of seven runners, so eight out of 14 being named to the all-area team isn’t bad at all,” Williams said. “I truly enjoy working with the kids. I believe I have the best kids in the state. They worked very hard all season long — they deserved it.”
