All-star teams from Long County are playing in the annual Lyons Invitational and, so far, the hometown kids are showing well.

The Midget Boys (12-under) advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Bacon County and Wayne County.

In the Bacon County game, the Ludowici kids got a game-winning home run by Tanner Brant to seal a 7-6 win in extra innings. In Long’s second game they had to go into extra innings again, this time against cross-county rival Wayne County, before they squeaked out a 5-4 win.

On Monday, the Midget Boys faced Evans County in the final-eight round, but lost a tough game 3-6.

In the early games, the Junior Boys (14-under) put up a gallant struggle, but lost to Evans County 1-9 and to Glennville 6-14, eliminating them from the tournament.

The Mite Boys (10-under) play their first game of the tournament on Friday, taking on Evans County. That game is scheduled for 11 a.m.

More news on how the Long County All-Stars are doing will be run in the Coastal Courier as information is obtained.
