Long boys, girls lose to McIntosh

The Long County boys and girls basketball teams lost Saturday to McIntosh County. As the regular season winds down, the Tide squads have work to do before the region tournament.

The Tide boys lost to the Buccaneers 52-61, and now have an overall record of 10-12 and a Region 2-AA mark of 8-6. With the loss, Long County has a half-game lead over the Charlton Indians (10-8, 8-7) and a one-game lead over Pierce County (10-10, 7-7). McIntosh County (17-6, 14-0) and Benedictine (19-5, 14-1) are the top two teams in the region.

On Tuesday the Blue Tide faced Appling County in Ludowici, but results from that game were not available. Going into the game, the Pirates had an overall record of 11-11 and a region mark of 5-9. When the teams met last month, Long County won 66-53.

This Friday, the Tide boys wrap up the regular with a game against Jeff Davis High School. The Yellow Jackets bring a 9-4 overall mark and a 5-9 region record into the game. The Tide have defeated Jeff Davis the last seven times they’ve played, including a 66-54 win earlier this season.

Coming into the game, the Yellow Jackets are averaging 52 points a game. The Blue Tide are putting up 64 points a night. On defense, the Jackets are allowing 55 points a game, while the Tide is allowing 64.

The Lady Tide were defeated 48-25 on Saturday by the Lady Bucs.

The loss dropped the Ludowici team to 3-18 overall and 3-11 in the region. Last night, the Tide took on the Lady Pirates from Appling County, but results were not available. The Lady Pirates (16-4, 13-1) are at the top of the Region 2-AA standings, and the team has won its last six games against the Long County girls.

This Friday, the Lady Tide will play their last regular season game against Jeff Davis High School. The Lady Jackets bring a 9-13 overall record and a 4-18 region mark into the game. The teams split wins the last two times they met.

Currently, the Yellow Jackets are averaging 39 points on offense compared with the Lady Tide’s 30 points. On defense, Long County is allowing 59 points, while Jeff Davis is allowing 41.

The girls play at 6 p.m. Friday in Ludowici. The boys play at 7:30.
