The Long County High School cross country teams are headed to the Class AAA meet at Carrollton, and the boys will go as the Region 1-AAA champs.
Long County freshman Macey Higgason was the top girls finisher, winning the region meet with a time of 20:25, 16 seconds ahead of Savannah Country Day’s Sarah Jane Schulze.
The Blue Tide had five of the top 12 boys finishers, paced by sophomore Shawn Young, who was fourth with a time of 17:50. Junior Trent Rutherford was fifth at 17:58, senior A.J. Blackmon was eighth at 18:06, junior Dillian Morse was 11th at 18:32, and freshman Trevor Kuchar was 12th at 18:47.
Savannah Country Day’s John Ryan won the boys race with a time of 16:17, more than a minute of the second-place finisher, John Gard of Savannah Christian.
Traevon Craighead as Liberty County’s top finisher, taking 17th at 19:14.
Long County’s Tamiya Copeland was 17th in the girls race at 24:34. Kaylyn Hatfield was 22nd at 24:56, Isabella Lucas was 25th at 25:52, and Abigail Nadeau finished 28th at 28:04.
St. Vincent’s Academy won the girls team title, edging Savannah Country Day. Calvary Day took third.
Tia Wilson was Liberty County’s top finisher, taking 26th at 25:54.
The AAA boys race will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m., and the girls will run at 10:15 a.m.
