Long County’s pitching staff held Liberty County to 11 hits in three games and the Blue Tide swept the Panthers in a threegame Region 3-AAA baseball series.
The Panthers outhit the Tide in the finale, a 5-2 Long County win, getting four hits to Long County’s two. But Long County got two walks and eight Tide batters were hit with a pitch.
Glemon English was 2-for-9 with two doubles in the series for the Panthers, while Bryce Coley and Caden Chancey each went 2-for-8.
Kenny Pickens, who homered twice and drove in six runs in the opening 12-2 win, finished 3-for-9 with two homers, two doubles and seven RBIs in the series. Creighton Rogers was 6-for-10 with two doubles and drove in four runs, Nick Sizemore was 3-for-11 with one RBI and Jemiel Pettis was 3-for-7 with three RBIs.
Tide pitchers also struck out 25 Panthers batters and issued seven walks in the series. Long County took the second game of the series 13-0.
With the win, the Blue Tide improved to 11-5 on the season and 5-1 in Region 3-AAA. Long County opened a three-game region series with Southeast Bulloch on Tuesday.
Liberty slipped to 8-9 on the season and 0-6 in the region. The Panthers started a three-game series with Islands on Tuesday. Liberty visits Islands today and will host the Sharks in the final Friday at 5:30 p.m. Liberty hosts Bradwell Institute in a non-region April 3 at 6 p.m.
