The Long County baseball team closed out the season Saturday against Claxton in Ludowici.

The Blue Tide was eliminated from the playoffs on Friday.
Satruday, in the top of the first, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, with only one out, Long County loaded the bases.

Krew Jones slammed what appeared to be a hit up the middle. But the Tigers turned a big double play.
The Blue Tide did manage six runs late in the game, but to no avail, as Claxton went on to win 10-6.

With the non-region win, Claxton improved its overall record to 9-11, while Long County ended a 14-12 mark. In Region 2-AA, Long County finished with a 7-7 mark, one game behind Bacon County and Bryan County, which secured the third and fourth spots in the playoffs with 8-6 records. At the end of March, the Blue Tide were 5-2 in the region, but a four-game losing skid was too much to overcome as the playoffs approached.

Next year, Long County will lose only three players, as seniors Antonio Golden, Ryan Desbiens and Bryan Lester are graduating. Anticipated returners include Matt Strickland, Josh Gordon, Colton Infinger, Andrew Swindell, Gary Poppell, Brett Blake, Trae Davis, Jeffery Edmondson, Tripp Stapleton and Jones.
