Long County dropped its first baseball game of the season Tuesday to Tattnall County, 15-10. Playing in Reidsville, the Battle Creek Warriors proved to be too much for the Blue Tide.
Josh Gordon picked up the loss for Long County going 2 2/3rd innings. While on the mound, Gordon gave up six hits, three walks and four earned runs. He struck out four. In relief, Clay Strickland went 3 1/3rd innings, giving up six hits, walking two and allowing three earned runs. Strickland struck out one.
The leading batters for the Blue Tide were Brian Lester, who went two for three with two runs batted in, and Gordon, who was three for five at the plate with one run batted in.
Though Long County lost, head coach Tyler Rogers said he was pleased with his team’s offensive production.
“We played OK,” Rogers said. “We booted it around a little bit in the field and I think that was the difference in the game. We swung the bats very well, I thought. If we continue to swing the bats we will be OK.”
With the loss, the Blue Tide fell to 1-1. On Saturday, Long County was to take on Bradwell in Ludowici. Results for that game were not available. The Blue Tide are back at home at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Claxton High.
