Long County High School football player Ricky Rivera wore No. 1 on his jersey this past season and by the season’s end, that number also represented his standing in the state as a receiver.
According to MaxPreps, a statistics and information Web site used by many Georgia high schools, the junior finished the season with the most receptions and receiving yards in the state.
According to MaxPreps, Rivera piled up 65 receptions for 1,034 yards in eight games, an average of 129 yards a game. His per-catch average was 15.91 yards. He had nine receiving touchdowns.
Another Blue Tide standout who excelled in the MaxPreps rankings was quarterback Jake Durham, who was listed No. 2 statewide in passing yardage.
According to MaxPreps, the junior threw for 2,183 yards — 243 yards a game — on 170-of-308 passing, a 53 percent completion percentage. He tossed 21 touchdowns and was intercepted 13 times.
Long County finished the season 4-6, 2-6 in Region 2-AA.
