The Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday designated Long County High School alumnus and right-handed pitcher Dustin McGowan for assignment, according to media reports on csnphilly.com.
A player designated for assignment is immediately removed from the team’s 40-man roster, after which the team must either place the player on waivers, trade the player, release the player or outright the player from the 40-man roster into the minor leagues.
On Tuesday, McGowan gave up five home runs in
3 innings in the Phillies’ 19-3 loss in Baltimore. According to baseball-reference.com, McGowan has a
1-2 win-loss record with a 6.94 earned-run average in
14 games this season with Philadelphia.
