McRae signs with Wizards
basketball

Former Liberty County High School and University of Tennessee basketball player Jordan McRae has signed a two-way deal with the Washington Wizards. McRae announced he was a Wizard on his Facebook page Aug. 9.

According to news reports, the two way contract allows McRae to play with the Wizards for up to 45 days, while spending the remainder of the season with that team’s G League affiliate, The Capital City go-go.

Reports say that McRae may see time with the Wizards and battle for a roster spot early in the season due to guard Jodie Meeks’ 19 game suspension at the start of the season. Meeks was hit with a 25 game suspension late last season for violating NBA anti-drug programs.

The Panther graduate was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2014 but was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.

McRae was signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers during their 2015-16 Championship winning season.

During his stint with the Cavs (2015-16, 2016-17) McRae averaged 4.3 points per game on 40.1 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from beyond the arc in 52 appearances and five starts.

McRae spent last season overseas with the Spanish squad Baskonia.
