Liberty County High School Panther standout Davion Mitchell has been selected for ESPN’s list of the top 60 basketball recruits for the Class of 2017.

Mitchell, an incoming junior, is ranked No. 50 on the list, which was released June 9 on espn.com. The Panthers point guard also is ranked No. 4 at his position in Georgia.

Mitchell has averaged 14.9 points, 6.8 assists, four rebounds and 2.7 steals per game in 57 games during the last two seasons at LCHS.
Mitchell’s uncle, Derrick Mitchell, said the standout junior is playing AAU basketball with the Georgia Stars in Atlanta and has already made big strides in the spring. He added that he expects his nephew will have an even better summer showing.

The Georgia Stars are currently ranked No. 1 nationally within the Nike Elite Youth 16U Teams.
Derek Mitchell said that since early May, Davion Mitchell has been to Kentucky and Virginia for AAU games or Nike camps and went to St. Louis, Missouri, last week for an elite 100 Nike camp.

“He was named in the top three for all point guards in attendance,” Derrick Mitchell said about the St. Louis camp.
In July, Davion Mitchell travels to Las Vegas for the AAU national championships.

His uncle said Georgia, Florida, Texas, Kansas State, Clemson, Auburn, Ohio State, California, George Mason and Florida State have all maintained some contact with him and his nephew. According to ESPN, Memphis has made an official offer.

The LCHS standout is seeking donations to cover some of his travel expenses. Anyone wishing to donate can go to http://gofundme.com/davionmitchell.
