The Liberty County Recreation Departments Mite Boys All-Star A Team took third place in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament.

Liberty County Recreation Department’s Mite Boys’ All-Star A Team took third place overall at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament. The state tournament took place Wednesday through Friday in Waycross.

This was the first time the Mite boys’ division earned a chance to play at the state tournament, LCRD Director Jimmy Martin reported.
The boys won the right to compete when they brought home the first-place trophy in the GRPA District 2 Championship tournament, also held in Waycross, on June 23.

Martin said the boys played well but lost a tough game to the eventual champion, Vidalia, in the first game.
The Mite boys turned things around, winning the next three games against Washington County, Ware County and Moultrie before falling Friday to Twin City.

Martin said the team and coaching staff represented Liberty County well.

Team members are head coach Duane Johnson, assistant coaches Demetre Walker and Christopher Green, and players Jordan Anglin, Cody Brinkley, Cameron Eason, Jaylin Frasier, Nigel Green, Da’Shawn Kates, Dennis Lopez-Vega, Lennix Lopez-Vega, Nextah Lopez-Vega, James Summersett, Wyatt Swears, Demetre Walker Jr. and Sykeem Gordon.
