Dan Rico, 1SGT (Ret.) first met golfing champion Lee Trevino in El Paso, Texas after returning from Vietnam in 1969.

Rico had read in the Stars and Stripes Newspaper about Trevino winning his first U.S. Open in 1968.

Rico later met the golfing legend at other tournaments – the Masters in Augusta, the Heritage at Hilton Head, the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra, Florida and at the Legends of Golf in Savannah.

Lee boycotted the Masters Tournament in the prime of his golfing career due to the racial bias within the officials who ran the tournament.

It wasn't until 1975 that Robert Lee Elder became the first African American to play in a Masters Tournament.

Later on, Tiger Woods, an Asian African American went on to win five Masters.
