Ogeechee basin celebration planned

STATESBORO — On Saturday, June 13, the Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeepers will celebrate the rivers at Coleman Lake Restaurant near Midville. The festivities will include a fish fry, music, door prizes and the annual membership meeting. The celebration begins at 11 a.m. and ends after lunch at 1 p.m.

Guest speaker Dr. Keith Seibert, a pediatrician with SouthCoast Medical Group and chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, St. Joseph’s — Candler Health Care
System, will discuss the health impacts of mercury.

Door prizes will be provided by Patagonia Atlanta and Southeast Adventure Outfitters. The celebration includes lunch and guests will be treated to a fish fry with all the fixings from Coleman Lake Restaurant. The annual membership meeting portion of the celebration will include election of at-large board members and volunteer awards.

Ogeechee-Canoochee Riverkeeper will also announce the launch of a major new initiative to keep pollution out of the rivers and coast.

Following the meeting, guests are invited to paddle the river. Canoes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
