Panther boys take region title, girls grab second

Liberty County High School’s track teams finished in first and second place at the Region 3-AAAA tournament last week held in Burke County.
The Panther boys brought home the first-place trophy. The Lady Panthers placed second overall at the event.

Liberty track coach Nathan Mims said several of his team members were set to compete Saturday and again today at the Class AAAA sectionals at Eagles Landing High School in McDonough.

Lady Panthers Dejah Smith and Javonna Johnson go into this weekend’s discus throw as the first and second seeds, respectively, from their region. Anthony Stewart and Enrique Tolbert are the first and second seeds, respectively, in the boys’ heat.

Smith is also the second seed and Stewart the top seed in the shot put.

In the high jump, Lady Panther Domonique Rogers is among the top-ranked in her region and Morgan Mitchell comes in as the fourth seed.

For the boys, Panther Patrick Williams is the third seed from the region.

Panther Miquail Evans will compete in the long jump and triple jump as the third seed in each category. Chris Helvie is the top-seeded competitor in the pole vault, and Derrick Smoke is the second seed.

Competing in the girls’ triple jump is top seed Alyshia Anderson.

Destiny Hall, Jaelynn James, Takeylia Sadler, Kiera Edwards and Anderson are the top-seeded girls’ 4x100 relay team. The boys’ 4x100 relay team is also the top seed and consists of Michael Guy, Jarquel Richardson, Williams, Theodis Wilcox, Dennis Davis and Marc Dickey.

Tomarrio Jenkins will represent the Panther boys in the 1,600-meter run and is the fourth seed. Desmond Hines is the region’s top-seeded runner in the 400-meter dash.

Hall is the top seed for the girls’ 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash Wilcox will run the 100-meter race in the boys’ division as the second seed and Williams as the third seed.

Vans will compete as the top seed in the 110-meter hurdles, and Roger Bizzard is the fourth seed in the boys’ 800-meter run.

Richardson is the boys’ second seed into the 200-meter dash and first seed in the 300-meter hurdles.

Rogers will compete in the 300 hurdles as the third seed.

Hall, James, Sadler, Edwards, Morgan and Anderson are the top-seeded 4x800 relay team.

Hines, Williams, Bizzard, Jenkins, Richardson and Dickey will race as the second seed in the 4x400 relay.
