Panther golfers sweep local match

Liberty County High School’s boys and girls golf teams showed no signs of rust nor did their clubs as they defeated Bradwell Institute and Long County in the season opener at Cherokee Rose Country Club on Feb. 22.
Ben Floyd was the low medalist, shooting 39 to help lead the Panthers to a 192 score. John Floyd shot a 47 for the Panthers, while Wesley Herr and Cesar Rodriguez each shot a 53. Louis Torres shot a 58 and Joseph Owens shot a 60 but their scores did not count toward the team total.
Bradwell finished second, shooting 203. Ryan Norris and Kyle Norris paced the Tigers with 47s, while James Dow shot a 48. Jeromy Causeway rounded out the scoring with a 61.
Long County shot a combined 232, led by Chris Manning’s 54. He was followed by Jake Balance’s 57, Chris Bryant’s 60 and Brandon Knight’s 61.
For the girls, Cassie Standard was the low medalist leading the Lady Panthers to the win. Her teammate Corrine Findley shot a 55. Meagan Rowe shot a 56, but her score did not count toward the team total.
Long County’s Ana Santiago shot a 50, followed by Elizabeth Vandervort’s 62.
Bradwell’s Loretta Williams was the team’s only golfer and she shot a 63.
The three teams met again, this time at Taylor’s Creek, on Thursday but the results were not complete in time for press.
Liberty County and Bradwell travel to Brunswick on Tuesday and host Wayne County on March 8 at Taylor’s Creek.
