Panthers look to remain undefeated against Wildcats

The Liberty County High School Panther football team is looking to stay undefeated as they host the Richmond Hill Wildcats Friday at Donell Woods Stadium.

The Wildcats are coming into the game with a 1-2 record to date.

The Panthers started their season by winning the Commissioner’s Cup beating cross-town rival Bradwell Institute 42-10 Aug. 30.

Last week the panthers played in Augusta where they dominated Cross Creek High School winning 54-0.

Panthers Dionte Bowens and Anthony Parker have combined for 16 completions of 23 attempts for 355 passing yards and five touchdowns.

Markel Johnson leads the Panthers in rushing yards with 255 yards on 30 carries. Marquis Johnson has 151 yards on 10 carries and Bowens has rushed for 89 yards on 12 carries.

Receiver LD Mack has four catches for 144 yards and two TDs. Nicholas Bennett has one touchdown, six receptions for 118 total yards.

Parker has five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns to date.

Markel Johnson also leads the Panthers in total tackled with 20. Marquis Johnson and Andrew Richards both have 14 total tackles. Nolan Dickens has 13 and Jordan Phillips has 12.

According to team stats posted by the coaches on maxpreps.com, the Wildcats are averaging 185.7 rushing yards per game to the Panthers’ 284.

The Wildcats and Panthers are close in passing yards per game with the Richmond Hill team averaging 134 per game and the Panthers’ averaging 178.

The Panther defense will look to stop Wildcat Jalen Rouse who is averaging 135 total yards per game this season.

Kickoff Friday is at 7:30 p.m.
