Panthers prepping for regional action

The Liberty County Panthers are trying to make up games canceled when their field was covered with Mother Nature’s tear.
The three-game Liberty County Classic was canceled and while they scheduled and won a makeup game against Calvary on Monday the Panthers hope to add a few more games as they prep for their regional opener at Burke County.
“Since we had all this rain and had to cancel some games, I’ve been working with some of the other coaches in the area to make up some games,” Panther coach Steve Cotrell said. “Originally, we were not suppose to play Calvary, but since we lost games due to the weather we scheduled a game. This coming Monday we are going to make up one game with Jenkins at their place at 5 p.m. and we are working to try to make up another.”
Cotrell said he was able to keep his players busy by continuing practice.
“We can always do something,” he said. “Outfielders take fly balls and practice on the football field and infielders take ground balls on the field, and there is always the batting cages. Right now, the key is to see some more live pitching before we go into region play.”
Cotrell said he does his best to simulate the speed of a live game during practice. He said it helps maintain the players’ intensity.
“We are still trying to figure out a few more things with personnel, especially in certain stages and situations during the game,” the coach said.
