SAVANNAH — Carlos Singleton hooked up with James Summersett for two touchdown passes and the Panthers defense came up with four interceptions, leading the Liberty County Panthers to a 30-6 win over Savannah Country Day at Saunders Field on Friday night.
The win moved Liberty’s record to 2-2 in Region 3-AAA and 4-3 on the season, and it sets up a pivotal clash next Friday night against Long County.
Singleton, who also had a 16-yard touchdown run, connected with Summersett with a 42yard scoring strike and then doubled up with an 84-yard TD pass and a 23-6 lead.
The Panthers also got an interception return for a touchdown.
Barton Mixon was 15-of-29 passing for 220 yards for the Hornets, who fell to 3-4 on the year and 1-3 in the region.
The Hornets (3-4, 1-3) got two Cash Ramirez field goals in the first half but the Panthers held them scoreless for the final 31 minutes.
Ramirez’s second field goal gave the Hornets a 6-3 second quarter lead, but Singleton’s TD run put the Panthers in front to stay. Singleton’s 42yard scoring throw to Summersett just before halftime stretched the lead to 16-6.
