Panthers to face SEB again to open first round of state baseball playoffs

The Liberty County Panthers will open the Class AAA state baseball playoffs with a short trip to a familiar foe.

The Panthers were assigned the No. 20 spot in the Class AAA power rankings and will travel to Brooklet to face Southeast Bulloch in the first round. Game times have not been announced in the best-of-three series but it is scheduled to start April 24.

The Yellow Jackets swept the season series from the Panthers, winning a pair of one-run games.

Calvary Day broke open a close game with a six-run rally in the sixth inning, and ended Liberty County’s baseball regular season with an 11-5 decision.

The Panthers finished the regular season 22-8 overall and 7-5 in Region 3-AAA.

The Cavaliers finished with 10 hits, five for extra bases. Waylan Heidik was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, driving in two runs. James Mobley went 2-for-4, and Dalton Kelley had a double and one RBI. The Cavs also got a double from Will Bauer and a triple from Noah Bauer.

Shedrick Pass went the distance as Liberty beat Portal 7-2 on the road Thursday in a non-region game. Pass struck out 14 and allowed two unearned runs on one hit in the win over Portal. He issued just one walk.

Ezzard Jemison doubled and drove in two runs, and Anthony Gerace collected three RBIs. Pass went 2-for-4 at the plate.

The winner of the Liberty-SEB series advances to meet the winner of the Stephenson vs. Peach County series.
