The Liberty County Panthers will try to make it three wins in a row – and three Region 3-AAAA wins in a row – in a rare Thursday night home game.
The Panthers got a last-minute touchdown to upend Windsor Forest Knights 24-19 Friday, improving to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in the region.
They will host Long County, which is 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in the region. The Blue Tide were off, having lost 35-32 at Harlem two weeks ago.
Against the Knights, the Panthers held a 14-0 halftime lead, but Windsor Forest grabbed a 19-14 midway through the fourth quarter on Jayden Martin’s touchdown run.
Liberty answered on Jaeir Roberts’ touchdown throw to Kalale Green for the winning score in the final seconds.
Green also added a touchdown run in the first half.
Martin finished with 174 yards passing, completing 10 of 19 attempts, including a 60-yard touchdown strike to Dwane Franklin. Martin added 96 yards rushing on 12 carries, and Jaimeer Duncan ran 12 times for 72 yards. Franklin had five catches for 108 yards.
Windsor Forest rolled up more than 350 yards of offense but the Panthers also recovered four Knights fumbles.
The Blue Tide have four players who have amassed at least 100 yards rushing this season, topped by Markyl Allen’s 607. The Blue Tide are averaging 269.6 yards per game on the ground.
