Panthers win local golf matches

In their final match before the Region 3-AAA tournament in Waynesboro, Liberty County High School’s boys and girls golf teams had good showings Wednesday at Cherokee Rose Country Club.
The Panthers shot 195, defeating McIntosh County Academy — 224 — and Bradwell Institute — 237.
The Lady Panthers tied MCA, both shooting 96.
The girls’ region match is Monday and the boys play Tuesday.
Wednesday, Ben Floyd was the low medalist, shooting 44. His brother John Floyd and Louis Torres each shot 46. Wesley Herr shot 59 and Joseph Owens shot 60.
For Bradwell, Ryan Norris led the team with 42. Jeromy Causeway shot 59; Chu Kim, 60 and Austin Keaton, 76.
Bradwell’s boys travel to Henderson Golf Course in Savannah Thursday to compete in the Region 3-AAAAA-golf match.
Liberty County’s Cassie Standard was the low medalist for the girls, shooting 47. Her teammate Meagan Rowe shot 49 and LCHS’ only female three-sport athlete freshman Desiree Garcia shot 71.
Bradwell’s Deborah Rodriguez shot 67.
Tuesday, Liberty County’s boys bested Richmond Hill and Bradwell at Taylors Creek. The Panthers shot 189, Richmond Hill shot 192 and Bradwell shot 232.
Ben Floyd finished as the low medallist, shooting 37. John Floyd shot 40, Torres shot 51 and Herr shot 61.
Norris and James Dow paced Bradwell with 51 apiece. Kim and Causeway each shot 65.
Liberty County defeated Bradwell in the girls match. The Panthers shot 101, led by low medallist Standard with 43. Rowe shot 58.
The Tigers shot 142. Loretta Williams shot 65 and Rodriguez shot 77.
