One of the most prolific running backs in Bradwell Institute history got a key to the city at the July 18 city council meeting.

Kevin Harris, now a member of the New England Patriots, received the honor from Mayor Karl Riles. Prior to the council ceremony, Harris was honored and had former Bradwell stars and South Carolina football players Candler Boyd and former mayor Allen Brown alongside.

Harris rushed for 4,100 yards in his Bradwell Institute career and scored 42 touchdowns, 22 as a senior. He was the two-time Region 2-6A player of the year and led the region in rushing in 2018.

After signing with South Carolina, he amassed 1,976 yards and 23 touchdowns as a Gamecock, and is one of only two Gamecocks with two runs of at least 75 yards.

Harris led the SEC in rushing yards per game, 113.8, as a sophomore and was named first-team all-SEC in 2020.

He also set a school record for touchdowns in a game with five against Ole Miss.

The Patriots drafted Harris in 2022, making him the 183rd pick overall in the sixth round.

He is the fourth player with Liberty County ties to be on the Patriots roster, including former Bradwell standouts Gary Guyton and Ulrick John and current teammate and former Liberty County High star Raekwon McMillan.

Harris had 175 total yards and two touchdowns in two NFL seasons.

Training camp for Harris, McMillan and the Patriots opened Wednesday. The preseason schedule starts August 8 against Carolina and the regular season begins September 8 at Cincinnati.
