Patriot to host sports festival here
Events over a weekend in March

Recently inducted Liberty County Hall of Famer, current NFL New England Patriot linebacker and former BI Tiger Gary Guyton is inviting the community to join him and other sports celebrities in hosting his first Gary Guyton Sports Festival slated for March 12-13, 2010 at Bradwell.

According to Guyton’s public relations firm, Flying Colors Sports, Guyton’s goal is to encourage kids to get academically and physically fit. Guyton has reportedly enlisted the support of his NFL friends to help make this event a success.

A summary of the event is as follows:

Friday, March 12th, Bradwell Institute

7 p.m., The Great Race

Similar to the popular television show "Amazing Race" the competition will feature a 1.5 mile course with fun filled pit stops. Teams of 3 or 4 individuals will race along a 1.5 mile course that includes a series of fun-filled pit stops that involve a combination of skill, intellect and teamwork. At each pit stop, teams will be directed to perform a task, as a team or by a single member, before advancing. Tasks include relays, school subject questions, sports, and a whole lot more. The team that finishes all the challenges and reports back to the final check point first win.

Saturday, March 13, Bradwell Institute

9 a.m. On-site registration begins

10 a.m. Football and cheerleading clinics begin

Free football and cheer clinic with the pros. This is open to kids in grades 1-8 but enrollment is limited to the first 150 football players and 30 cheerleaders who sign up.

During the football clinic, the NFL players will teach offensive and defensive techniques they learned in the NFL

Cheer clinic concentrates on basic cheer skills including jumps, motions and moves. No previous cheer experience is necessary. Cheerleaders will perform during halftime of the basketball game.

1:45 p.m. awards and autographs session, Special awards will be given to campers achieving A/B honor roll. Please bring copy of report card.

2 p.m. Clinics end

6 p.m. NFL Celebrity basketball fest at BI’s gym

Admission is $5 in advance or $8 at the door, ages 5 and under free.

The fun starts at 6 p.m. with a student three-point shooting contest. Open for children in grades 1-12. The winner will receive NFL prizes.

7 p.m. NFL vs. Area Teachers/Coaches Basketball game

Area residents are invited to come out to cheer, as the locals are matched up against the best from the NFL. There will also be a silent auction where autographed sports memorabilia will be available for purchase.
