Monica Lopez is a running enthusiast, according to her husband Alonso.
He said her love of running is clearly visible to anyone driving along Highway 84, especially on a Sunday morning.
“She enjoys running and runs almost daily,” Alonso Lopez said. “She has raced in Tybee half marathon seven times and races in the local and regional events.”
On Oct. 4, Monica joined her son Andrew, a cross country runner for the Liberty County Panthers, and more than 200 runners at Fort Stewart’s Top of the Rock Run.
The run is an annual even sponsored by the Army to promote fitness.
Andrew Lopez, 16, came in first overall in the men’s 5k run and his mother took second overall in the women’s 10k.
The Hinesville mother and son team made impressive time with Andrew running the 5k in 17:55 and Monica finishing her 10k in 49:42.
“He runs cross country for LCHS and has won or finished in the top five in all of his races within the area,” his proud father said. “He’s also competed in numerous races in Savannah and St. Simons.”
