The eighth-grade Coastal Crew Rebels went unbeaten May 9 at a tourney in Albany.

The Coastal Crew Rebels eighth-grade team went 3-0 in the “Mayhem-In-May” Basketball Showcase on May 9 in Albany.
The Rebels’ first win was a 68-32 decision over the ninth-grade Middle Georgia Cyclones.
Isaiah Scott finished with a team-high 27 points and 11 rebounds.
Next, the Rebels defeated the ninth-grade Alabama (USA) team 63-8, with Javonte LeCounte led the team with 14 points, and Cedric Golphin had a monster dunk before halftime.
In their final game, the Rebels faced the I-75 Albany Tigers Elite, which they lost to about two years ago. The players were waiting on this rematch for a long time and earned a 55-50 win.
Isaiah Scott had 17 points, and Qualeek Keith had four 3-pointers and three steals.
The Rebels record was 10-4 after the tourney.
“I am extremely proud of the team and what they accomplished this weekend,” Rebels coach Simon Steele. “I noticed improvement in all our weaknesses. First, we became more disciplined and patient in our execution. The young men allowed our plays to develop on the offensive end and capitalized on the mistakes of their opponent. On the defensive end, I was impressed. We played a man defense every game. The older kids were physically stronger and faster, but our kids stuck to the man defense principles, which allowed us to prevail.”
