Scott earns SIAC, national HBCU weekly recognition

Marcus Scott V, a graduate student and guard for the Central State (Ohio) basketball team, was named a SIAC player of the week for week seven of the season.

Scott, a Hinesville native, led Marauders to victories over Morehouse and Spring Hill on his way to reaching 1,000 career points. Scott recorded 24 points and seven assists in Monday's 85-80 road win at Morehouse. In a 72-71 win over Spring Hill, Scott finished with 22 points and six rebounds, making 5-of-6 3-pointers.. The graduate student scored his 1,000th career point in the opening minutes of Saturday's win.

The 5-foot-11 Scott also was named the boxtorow.com HBCU National Player of the Week. He averaged 23.7 points, 4.0 assists, 4.7 rebounds, while shooting 51% from the field, and 65% from 3-point range.

Scott played the previous two seasons at Savannah State. Last year he averaged 13.1 points per game in helping lead the Tigers to the SIAC Tournament championship, where he was named the 2022 SIAC Tournament Championship Most Valuable Player. He is averaging 15.1 points per game and is shooting 46% from 3-point range.
