Shut out opens Lady Panther season

The Panthers blanked the Tattnall Warriors at their home opener Monday afternoon with a 5-0 win as well.
The game was icing for  the Lady Panthers softball team’s start of the 2007 season, which also included a strong showing in the Tattnall Invitational Tournament with only one loss. Here is a brief wrap up of their last three games.

Aug. 16 against Tattnall
The Panthers won 13-4 under the pitching arm of Cassie Standard. Standard gave up 7 hits, 9 strikeouts, and 3 walks. The Panthers committed only 3 errors. The hits were coming steady with Standard getting a single and 4 RBIs. Courtney Miles hit a double and 2 RBIs while Chelsea O’Quinn had a double and a single, and Dominique Sibley had a single.

Aug. 18 against Metter
The Lady Panther suffered their first loss 15-1. On the mound was Chantel Breeden who gave up 8 hits, had 3 strikeouts and walked 2 players. The Panthers committed 2 errors but the battery was doing well with Cassie Standard hitting a double, Courtney Miles had a double and Elyssa Lemapu hit a single.

Aug. 20 home opener against Tattnall
The Panthers recovered from their first loss with a 5-0 win against the Warriors on their home turf. Cassie Standard was on the mound for the shutout game and she gave up only one hit, had 7 strikeouts, and 2 walks. The panthers committed no errors and Panthers. They came out hitting with Courtney Miles getting 2 singles, Dominique Sibley hitting 2 singles, Cassie Standard had a single, Chelsea O’Quinn had a single and 2 RBIs.

Cavs take series opener from Tide

The Long County Blue Tide baseball game into the week knowing they needed to bring their A-game if they were going to beat the Calvary Day Cavaliers. On Tuesday, April 1, they struggled to get much going at the plate as the Cavaliers pulled away late to win the series opener 10-1.
