NORFOLK, Va. - Savannah State University first baseman Charles Sikes has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, according to a press release on SSU’s athletic web-site.
 
The 2015 Preseason MEAC Player of the Year, Sikes registered a .444 batting average (8-of-18), including four doubles, four runs scored and four RBI's, against the University of Alabama and Long Island University Brooklyn. Defensively, he recorded 39 putouts, without an error.
 
On the season, the 6'4" Hinesville, Georgia native is batting .375 with 15 hits, 13 RBI, 10 runs, six doubles and two home runs. He also has three sacrifice flies and a .675 slugging percentage. In the field, Sikes has 79 put outs and two assists.
 
The Tigers (4-8) open their MEAC schedule when they travel to Tallahassee, Florida to play Florida A&M University in a three-game series on March 7 & 8.
SSU returns home with games with Wofford (March 10), Notre Dame (March 11), North Carolina Central (March 14 & 15) and Georgia State (March 18).
