Six Tide wrestlers win traditionals region titles

SAVANNAH – Six Long County wrestlers won region championships and 12 in all qualified for the state sectionals at the region traditionals meet Friday, and the Tide also secured the region championship.

Of the Tide’s 13-man team, nine advanced to the championship final in their respective weight classes while three others made it to the consolation final.

Roman Stewart-Evans (106), King Council (126), Casey Dean (132), Tjayden Vaughn (144), Sandejago Wilson (165), and Tusi Tiapula (215) all won the region championship in their weight classes.

Kyle Parks (113), Jason Kidwell (150), and Coleton Young (157) each finished second. Grant Dykes (120) finished third while Collis West (138) and Jermirus Leverette (285) finished fourth.

The team finished first in overall points as well with 241.5 points, giving them their second straight team championship at the region traditionals tournament.

These 12 wrestlers will go to the state sectionals at Troup High School in LaGrange on Saturday, February 7. From there, the top eight in each weight class advance to the state championship meet February 11-12 at the Clayton County Convocation Center in Morrow.
