The Los Angeles Sparks raised DeLisha Milton-Jones’ No. 8 jersey to the Crypto.com Arena rafters Tuesday night.

The WNBA franchise honored the Riceboro native during halftime of the Sparks’ game against the New York Liberty.

“This is definitely worth the wait,” Milton-Jones told the crowd.

Milton-Jones, who led Bradwell Institute to the Class AAAA state championship against powerhouse Morrow as a senior, is a member of the inaugural class of the Liberty County Athletic Hall of Fame.

She was a first-round pick by the Sparks out of the University of Florida, where she was SEC player of the year and a first-team all-American as a senior.

She played for the Sparks for 11 of her 17 seasons in the WNBA, and helped the Sparks to back-to-back WNBA titles in 2001-02. She also was a member of the U.S. women’s basketball Olympic gold medal-winning teams in 2000 and 2008.

Nicknamed “D-Nasty” by then-Sparks coach Michael Cooper for her ferocious defense and rebounding, Milton-Jones won the WNBA’s Sportsmanship Award in 2015, her final season.

She finished her WNBA career as the league leader in games played and minutes played. She is now fourth all-time in games played and eighth in minutes.

In the Sparks’ record book, Milton-Jones is third all-time in blocks and is fourth in a number of categories including points, rebounds and steals
