Sports physicals set for April 17

Physicals for area students of all ages who will participate in sports for the 2010-11 school year will be given from 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, April 17, in Bradwell Institute’s gym.

Physicals will not be started after 11:30 a.m. to insure that all exams are finished by noon. All female athletes and any male athletes who have an event that day will be seen between 8-10 a.m. All other male athletes will be seen between 10 a.m.-noon.

Parents must accompany their children to the physicals, which helps to eliminate missing information and allows parents to ask questions about their athletes’ overall health.

Physical packets are available from athletic directors at Bradwell Institute, Liberty County High School, Lewis Frasier Middle School, Snelson-Golden Middle School and Midway Middle School. Middle school athletic directors will indicate what high school their eighth-graders will attend next year so physicals are distributed to the appropriate high schools.

Physicals administered April 14 will be valid throughout the upcoming school year and will expire at the end of May 2011.

The physicals are free and open to all athletes in Liberty County. A physical must be on file for every student who participates in athletics at middle school and high school levels.

This year’s physicals are sponsored by Medical and Para-Medical Professions: Dr. Stephen Tankersly, Coastal Orthopedic and Sports Medicine, Martha Kitchens from the Liberty County Health Clinic, LPN students from the Liberty branch of the Savannah Technical College under Kissiah Moore (Allied Health Department head), Rubin Smith, RN (instructor of LPN students), Dr. John Valosen (Winn Army Community Hospital orthopedic clinic), Kenneth Bostic (Winn Army Community Hospital), Dr. Tim Clemmons (director Back and Spine Clinic) and physical therapists from the Back and Spine Clinic.
