The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association announced its boys and girls All-State basketball teams and three Liberty County Panthers made the All-Class 3-AAA squads.
For the girls team the dynamic duo of LaQunanisha Adams and Metra Walthour were tapped for the honor. Both seniors are finishing out their high school curriculum and will have roughly two-weeks of summer vacation before having to report to Georgia Tech.
The pair have signed full scholarships to become Yellow Jackets in what the Ramblinwreck.com, Georgia Tech’s official athletic website, regards as another highly recruited class of players for the 2008-09 season.
Under associate head coach Sytia Messer, the teams recruiting coordinator the past four seasons, Tech recruits have all ranked in the top-25 in the nation. The 2008-09 class, ranked as high as sixth by All-Star Girls Report, is one of the best in the nation and it includes Walthour, Adams and Monique Bennett from Statesboro.
Walthour and Adams were recently honored by being chosen for the All-Seniors South team as well as being nominated for the 2008 McDonalds All-American Team.
Rounding out LCHS’s All-State selections, sophomore Jordan McRae continues to show why Rivals.com scores him among the top players being scouted for the class of 2010.
According to Rivals.com: The 6-foot-5 guard from Liberty County loves to score in two big ways, with the three ball and at the rim for a dunk. McRae’s recruitment is taking shape these days, with, Florida, Minnesota, Clemson, Wake Forest, UCLA, Southern Cal and Georgia keeping a close eye on his career.
In February, ESPN’s high school basketball recruiting tracker scored him in the top 40 and said he was one of the best athletes in the class of 2010 according to Scouts, Inc.
McRae recently got an honorable mention to the All-Greater Savannah Basketball Team.
