Bradwell Institute’s Elyjah Thurmon was named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Class AAAAA all-state first team as an offensive lineman.
The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Thurmon, who signed with Clemson in December, played Wednesday in the Under Armour All-American Game as a member of Team Ice.
Region 1 was well represented on the AJC’s all-state team – Coffee running back Fred Brown was named Class AAAAA offensive player of the year, Jenkins’ Lorenzo Cowan was named defensive player of the year and Coffee coach Mike Coe was named coach of the year.
Coffee also placed senior Jerzabeon Grant on the first team offensive line. Coffee senior defensive back Anthony Paulk also was named to the first team.
Statesboro quarterback Kam Mikell, Ware County defensive lineman Demetrius Baldwin, Coffee defensive lineman Elgie Paulk were named honorable mention.
In Class AAA, Savannah Christian’s Elijah Griffin was named defensive player of the year. Calvary quarterback Jake Merklinger, Calvary tight end Mike Smith, and Savannah Christian linebacker David Bucey were named to the first team. Savannah Christian junior Kenry Wall, Savannah Country Day junior quarterback Barton Mixon, Savannah Christian junior tight end Logan Brooking and Calvary senior wide receiver Caden Arnold were named honorable mention.
