DEXTER — The Long County Blue Tide competition cheer team returned this year after a two-year hiatus and has had a lot of success. In their five regular season competitions this year, the team placed first in four.

On Saturday, November 9, the team traveled to West Laurens High School to compete in the sectionals competition. The team needed to finish in the top 16 in the state to advance to the state competition and they did just that.

The team finished with a score of 86 points and placed inside the top 16. This was their highest score all season.

They also finished as runner-up in Region 3-AAA, finishing just one point behind Southeast Bulloch for the region championship.

The cheer team will now advance to the state championship for the first time since 2021. This has been done all under first-year head coach Haley Scofield, who revived the team back in May.

The state championship competition will be Saturday, November 16 at the Macon Coliseum.
