A tough Appling County football team comes to Ludowici tonight to take on Long County.
The Pirates are 2-0 after a tough 3-0 win over Effingham County last week. Two weeks ago, the Pirates shutout Wayne County 20-0, so the Blue Tide will definitely be facing a tough, hard-hitting defense.
The Blue Tide is coming off a disheartening 14-33 loss to Johnson High School two weeks ago, when the team did not play their best football. Tonight they will be hoping to bounce back with a big win in front of the hometown crowd.
In recent years, Appling County has had the Tide’s number, winning their last three games, including last year’s 52-7. That loss started a five-game losing streak before Long County bounced back to win three of their last four games.
According to Long County head coach Kyle Wilson, the early season bye last week has helped his team.
"It’s given us a chance to fix issues, get healthy for the long stretch, and extra time to prepare for Appling," Wilson said.
Wilson also said the extra week has insured all of his players are healthy and ready.
